These clips of the Harpy scene from The Tempest were originally recorded during a Zoom session. This production of The Tempest was interrupted prior to tech week due to Coronavirus precautions. The audio of actress Lauren King (playing Ariel) was extracted from the recording of the show using Adobe Audition. All of the edits were also done using Audition.

Since Ariel is a spirit of the isle, my goal was to only use natural sounds with regards to the spirits and magic from the isle. Thus, all of my sound (as unnatural as they may sound) were chosen with this in mind.

All of the sounds used were acquired from FreeSound.org and are under the CC0 license.

  • Ariel's voice was echoed to add mystery and fear

  • Thunder claps as Ariel appears and disappears

  • An Aeolian wind harp for Ariel forcing their swords to float

  • A tree cracking for the twisting of the men while the swords float, and the crash of the tree as the swords become "too massy for their strengths."

  • A wave organ (creepy undertone)
